Jim Cunningham

Drums

Jim has always had a passion for music, in spite of “just” being a drummer. He started playing trumpet in elementary school and became a multi-instrumentalist, picking up viola, french horn, and even a little snare drum. Sadly he gave up playing instruments because they weren’t “cool” at the time. Fast forward to 2008 and he was at a party where the hosts pulled out the infamous Rock Band game and he became hooked on playing the “drums.” He had so much fun he decided he needed to learn how to play them for real and started taking lessons. He became one of the founding members of Free Range Marmot in 2010 and has been playing with the band ever since.

Larae Jones

Vocals

Larae possessed a love for singing at a young age and immersed herself in anything related to music growing up in order to learn as much as she could. Her dedication paid off and she had the opportunity to sing in professional recording studios starting at the age of 13, won NACMAI’s “Vocalist of the Year” award at 15 for the state of Florida, was teaching musical theater professionally at only 17 years old, and was offered a development record deal at the age of 18. She decided to finish school before starting a singing career since she was on a full academic scholarship, and as fate would have it, she ended up switching creative paths and degrees from musical theater to graphic design and had a successful career as an art director in New York City after college. When Larae moved back to her home state of Colorado with her husband Ian, her passion for singing was reignited. Now she splits time between her Fleetwood Mac cover band, Skylark, and Free Range Marmot.

Tom Keuer

Vocals, Guitar, Songwriting

Tom has always been drawn to the mountains, from a formative stint in the Austrian Alps to the 36 years he’s called Colorado home. But his roots are pure Austin, Texas. Raised in the heart of the progressive country boom, Tom spent his college years soaking up the sounds of legends like Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, and Stevie Ray Vaughan at Austin’s iconic live music venues. While a long career in biotech took center stage for decades, music eventually found its way back in. It started simply—playing guitar to help his sons, Zach and Brady, settle down at bedtime—but soon evolved into something more. In 2013, Tom came to his senses and joined Free Range Marmot, where he now serves as the band’s primary songwriter. His wife, Meena, jokingly calls this band “His Mid-Life Crisis" (actually a solid band name), but for Tom, songwriting and playing in a band is therapeutic, keeping him young at heart, inspired, and mostly out of trouble.
